Djavolja Varos (”Devil’s Town”)
www.djavoljavaros.com
In the south of Serbia, 27 km south-east of Kursumlija, lies a first-class natural landmark – Djavolja Varos (”Devil’s Town”). Two rare natural phenomena at the same spot: 202 stone formations created by erosion, between two and 15 meters in height and the middle diameter of under 1 m, topped by stone blocks weighing as much as 100 kg, appearing unreal and yet lasting for centuries, and two springs of extremely acid water (pH 1,5) with high mineral content (15 g/l; content of some elements even 1000 times as high as in ordinary drinking waters) make Djavolja Varos a true wonder of nature.
The natural surrounding area adds to the attraction of these two wonders, depicting a rather harsh, almost mystical atmosphere, but at the same time picturesque and timid, just like the remains of the town, old church, cemetery, and several interesting mines.
Djavolja Varos has been put under protection of the state in 1959, while in 1995, by the Decision of the Serbian Government, it was declared the natural good of an outstanding importance, giving it the first-category level of protection – NATURAL MONUMENT. Thus, the whole 67 hectares of its territory are protected.
Tara
www.tara-planina.com
Tara is located in western Serbia. It is a part of Dinaric Alps and covers an area of 183 km2. Its length is 50 km, and it is 22 km wide, with average height of 1200 m above sea level. Its highest point is Kozji rid - 1591 m.
The location of Tara allows development of tourism and visits to variety of different tourist locations. Richness and variety of tourist attractions, preserved natural environment, mountain relief with height between 800-1500 m, winter sports facilities, richness and variety of plant and animal life, pleasant climate, river Drina and artificial lakes Perucac and Zaovine make this mountain one of the most beautiful in our country. Tara is situated in the vicinity of places such are town of Uzice, Mokra Gora, town of Višegrad with numerous cultural and historical sights which can be easily visited by people who are staying on Tara. This gives them opportunity for more interesting vacations. Tara gives excellent opportunities for development of sustainable tourism with minimal impact on its environment and cultural heritage, which helps economical development of local community at the same time.
Tara is a good place for building tourist objects. There are lots of places with great amount of sunshine and little wind. During winter you can engage in beginner or Nordic skiing or sleighing. Opportunities for alpine skiing are limited due to shortness of chutes, which is less than 2 km.
The best chutes are in the region of Predov krst. They are between 3 and 5 km long. Mild steeps of Tara are good for walking, horse riding, using trim traces and other sport activities.
Mećavnik – Drven grad
www.mecavnik.info
I noticed hill Mecavnik while picturing film „Life is a miracle“. From „hill accross“ on the railroad Golubic – „a station“ made for a movie near the station Jatare, I saw Mecavnik. it wasn`t difficult: we used to sit for hours waiting for sun to come out of the clouds, to continue filming. During the time of waiting , I was looking with envy at Mecavnik – a hill without anything on it, but as it seened to me, with a pleanty of sunshine...

Viminacijum
www.viminacijum.org.rs
Viminacium was devastated and destroyed in the middle of the 5th century, and it remained forgotten and buried like Pompeii, which disappeared under a flood of lava from Vesuvius in 79 A.D.. That analogy and the recognition that the remains of the Roman town and the military camp represent a site of exceptional interest explains why Viminacium has been called the Balkan Pompeii.
All the legionary camps and Roman towns lie under modern agglomerations today - Londinum lies under the present London, Novaesium under Neuss, Castra Regina under Regensburg, Mogontiacum under Meinz, Mediolanum under Milan, Emona under Ljubljana, Aquincum under Budapest - and that fact makes excavation difficult. What distinguishes Viminacium from other archaeological sites and makes it particularly important is the exceptional wealth of finds contained already in its surface, arable layer. As a result, more than 13.500 graves have been explored in the past twenty-five years and more than 32.000 finds have been deposited in the vaults of the Museum.
However, although Viminacium is an exceptional archaeological site without exact parallel in any other region, we cannot but feel regret because of the sad fact that its treasures, which are of inestimable value, are often conveyed out of the country to enrich foreign museums and private collections.
